Where the four of you sleep

The main bedroom takes a 160 cm bed. The second bedroom doubles as a work space by day and opens a 140 cm pull-down bed at night. That makes four beds across 50 m², about 538 sq ft, two bedrooms and one shower room. The apartment holds the French three-star tourist rating and reopened in January 2026 after a full renovation carried out in the spirit of the École de Nancy.

The apartment sits on the second floor and the building has an elevator. With a stroller, a car seat and two bags of shopping, that is the single most useful line on this page. The inertia radiators run on a schedule, the shower room heats through the floor, the wall and the shower tray, and all 5 windows have reinforced double-pane glass: a 2 p.m. nap survives the shopping street below.

What stays out of the trunk

Travel crib, high chair and children’s utensils are provided. Three bulky items you leave at home on the way out, three you do not carry back, and nothing to rent locally on the first evening.

The washer and dryer change the size of the luggage altogether. Four days of clothes cover a week, pants stained at lunch come back clean the next morning, and you drive home with folded laundry instead of a bag to sort.

The fully equipped kitchen feeds four: induction cooktop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, a large fridge-freezer and a Nespresso machine. The covered market hall is 300 m away for supplies. Cotton percale bed linens and towels are provided. Pets are welcome, which settles the question of the dog you had no plan for.

Distances with a stroller

Everything below starts at the front door of the building, on level ground, with no transport involved.

Those timings assume an adult pace. With a four-year-old walking on their own feet, double them and keep the market hall as a halfway stop.

We have measured neither sidewalk widths nor the number of curb cuts along each route. Central Nancy is old and you will meet cobbles. What there is to do with children

Parc de la Pépinière opens 21 hectares, about 52 acres, in the middle of town, 12 min on foot, with a rose garden, a small zoo and a wide shaded avenue you can push a stroller down. It is the fallback when a visit ends early.

Place Stanislas has been closed to cars since 2005. You cross it without holding a hand, which is unusual for a square of that size and that footfall.

The Musée des Beaux-Arts closes the west side. The Daum glass collection sits in the basement, inside the foundations of the old fortifications: a staircase, bare stone, glass lit in the dark. Children last longer down there than in the painting rooms, and the visit closes in an hour.

The covered market hall works as an outing in itself, 300 m from the door. Further north the medieval Grande Rue climbs towards the Porte de la Craffe, whose towers you spot from the bottom of the street. The Maison des Sœurs Macarons on Rue Gambetta keeps the nuns’ recipe and travels home in hand luggage.

The École de Nancy museum and the Villa Majorelle open Wednesday to Sunday, with a joint ticket at €9, €6.50 reduced, free under 26: a family of four therefore pays for two. Those two addresses are the only ones outside walking range, about thirty minutes on foot or fifteen by tram and bus. The rest is in Art Nouveau and the École de Nancy.

Two moments in the year

From mid-June to mid-September the city projects a free sound and light show onto the façades of Place Stanislas after dark. In 2026 it runs from 12 June to 13 September, starting after sunset and therefore later as the summer goes on.

The show ends well past bedtime. Sleeping huit minutes away means walking home, taking the elevator and tucking the children in within the quarter of an hour that follows. Families staying on the edge of town find their car and then still have a drive ahead.

In early December the city celebrates Saint Nicholas and closes the center to traffic for the parade. The arithmetic matches the summer one, with the cold added and the parking removed. Dates and running order are in the Saint Nicholas festivities in early December.

50 m² and one shower room

The format suits two adults and two children. For four adults getting up at the same hour, the single shower room shows itself on the second morning: one shower, one basin, and nowhere else to send anyone. The two bedrooms are not equal either, since the second one comes down to a 140 cm pull-down bed sharing the room with the work space.

Two children in the 140 cm, two parents in the 160 cm: that is the split the apartment was furnished for. With two teenagers who no longer share a bed, the numbers stop working, and it is better to know that before booking.

Self check-in is by smart lock from 4 p.m., with no cut-off hour, and check-out is before 11 a.m. There is no appointment to keep in the hall: nobody is counting the minutes while you lift a sleeping child out of a car seat.

Booking is instant, with no deposit and no security hold, and free cancellation up to 7 days before arrival. On a family trip that is the clause that earns its keep, because an ear infection gives no notice. Rates start at €77.50 a night, before cleaning fee, service fee and tourist tax, with the letting handled by the Cocoonr agency.
